Last Saturday it was my great pleasure to provide the catering for the very first Shrovetide Dinner Dance at the breathtaking venue of Osmaston Park. The event was expertly organised by Laura Jones and at 6.30pm 550 of Ashbourne’s finest arrived to raise money for the Shrovetide game and to enjoy a wonderful evening. The priority at charity balls has to be to serve the meal quickly, so that the speeches, raffle, auctions etc can be done whilst still leaving time for the guests to party the night away. With 550 guests that is no mean feat! I chose the menu carefully to make sure that the service could be fast and that the meal was good value, so that as much of the proceeds as possible could be donated to the cause. Focussing on fresh, locally sourced ingredients and preparing them simply meant that we were able to produce a crowd-pleasing meal with hearty Derbyshire sized portions! Heading up a team of 10 in the kitchen and 50 waiters and waitresses we managed to serve all 550 people a three course meal in just under 2 hours. The event managed to raise an amazing amount for the charity and, most importantly, a fabulous time was had by all.
